Linz Hauptplatz

The redesign of Linz Hauptplatz reimagines one of Austria’s largest and most significant city squares as a contemporary urban stage. Our concept balances history with future, introducing ecological strategies, multifunctional uses, and vibrant spatial qualities while respecting the cultural heritage of the site.

Flexible Urban Life

The square is designed as a flexible surface for daily life and major events — from markets to cultural festivals. Retractable infrastructure (power, water, media screens) ensures adaptability without permanent obstructions.

Green & Climate

A new network of tree-lined zones and planted surfaces improves the microclimate, offering shade, cooling, and seasonal variety. Rainwater-fed mist and water features create natural cooling and playful, consum-free zones.

Heritage & Continuity

Historic axes, paving patterns, and monuments remain central to the design. A symbolic waterline draws the presence of the Danube into the square, connecting city, history, and river.
